Reuters reports this, citing results from an October Gallup Korea poll.
The survey was conducted amid Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s announcement that Kyiv plans to formally request arms from Seoul, including artillery and air defense systems.
Meanwhile, Reuters sources suggest that Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. elections has added further uncertainty to these discussions.
The poll shows 82% of South Koreans oppose providing arms to Ukraine. However, many acknowledge that closer ties between Russia and North Korea pose a growing threat to Seoul.
- Recently, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, when asked about the possibility of supplying weapons to Ukraine in response to Russia aiding North Korea, stated that all options remain under consideration.
- On November 27, a Ukrainian delegation led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov arrived in Seoul to formally request weapons for Ukraine’s fight against Russia.
