Zelenskyy urges NATO invitation in call with UK Prime Minister Starmer
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, emphasizing the importance of inviting Ukraine to NATO
Zelenskyy shared this information on his Telegram channel.
"We agreed to maintain close contact with European leaders on steps to position Ukraine as strongly as possible for any developments. I emphasized that Ukraine needs an invitation to NATO and further enhancement of long-range capabilities," the president stated.
He also briefed the British prime minister on the Russian attack on November 28, during which the Russian forces launched over 90 missiles and nearly 100 drones against Ukraine. The leaders focused special attention on further defense cooperation.
They also discussed Ukraine's possible participation in the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) summit next month in Tallinn, to which Estonia has invited Ukraine. According to Zelenskyy, this year Ukraine was the only country to join the JEF Joint Protector 2024 exercises as an observer. Kyiv is interested in deepening cooperation with this alliance in the future.
"We also agreed with the prime minister to expedite the preparation of a centennial partnership agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom," Zelenskyy added.
