Russia could encircle Kupyansk if they secure right bank of Oskil, warns Kharkiv official
Kharkiv Regional Council member Oleksandr Skoryk stated that the situation in the Kharkiv region remains difficult. He warned that a Russian breach of the Oskil River could lead to the encirclement of Kupyansk
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"Unfortunately, the front line near Kupyansk is shifting, and not in our favor. There have been breaches to the right bank of the Oskil river in the area near Dvorichna. There are two points there - locals will know - where the riverbed is at its narrowest, almost a shallow ford, allowing them to cross and establish positions. Now we already have a bridgehead on the right bank, which is a negative development for our (Ukrainian - ed.) forces in terms of logistics and the overall situation in the Kupyansk area. If they manage to consolidate their positions, they could encircle Kupyansk and cut off logistical routes," he said.
According to him, this is the biggest advancement in the Kharkiv region in recent times.
“As we can see, they are employing the same tactics in Donbas and the Luhansk region as before—blocking essential activities and encircling areas from two sides. This has resulted in advances in other cities, making the situation extremely concerning. We are likely facing the heaviest losses and the most significant advances by Russian forces in the Kharkiv region in recent times. In Lyptsi, the situation is stable, and in the Vovchansk direction, it is relatively stable as well. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are successfully preventing the enemy from deploying, moving, or advancing there,” said Skoryk.
- On November 25, the occupying Russian army landed on boats across the Oskil river south of Novomlynsk, Kharkiv region.
