We are interested in Argentina playing key role in Peace Formula - Zelenskyy on his visit to Argentina

"We are interested in Argentina playing a key role in the Peace Formula as a very welcome representative of Latin America. We need the support of all continents. Here we see a great power with this desire and capabilities," the president said.

Zelenskyy also expressed interest in uniting Latin America around Ukraine and in the Ukraine-Latin America summit. "And here I would like Javier Milei to help us in activating and organizing such a platform," Zelenskyy explained. However, according to Zelenskyy, specific agreements require time for the teams of both countries to work out all the issues.

During his inaugural conversation with Argentine President Javier Milei, Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a positive signal about the topics in which Ukraine is interested. "We are powerful today in the military, security, and digitalization sectors. And I said that we are ready to cooperate in this area, share our experience, and take yours. We are absolutely open about this because the security issue is number one today," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.

According to the President, Ukraine and Argentina can also cooperate in the energy sector to increase trade between the two countries. Zelenskyy noted that Russia is always directly or indirectly involved in the conflicts that are currently erupting in different parts of the world, so the security issue is also important for Latin American countries. 

The Head of State explained that he had chosen Argentina as the first country to visit among the Latin American countries because of the invitation to the inauguration of Javier Milei and his position on Russia's aggression against Ukraine. He noted that Argentina is one of the largest countries in the region that has an impact on Latin America as a whole: it is looked at as a leader. "I see the people of Argentina supporting the people of Ukraine today. And we hope that more Latin American countries will join us in the future. You are important to us," Zelenskyy summarized.

• On October 22, Argentina held the first round of presidential elections. It failed to determine a winner. Economist and showman Javier Milei and current Economy Minister Sergio Massa advanced to the second round.

• On November 19, in the second round, Argentina elected libertarian Javier Milei as its new president. He has radical views on economic reform.

• On November 23, Javier Milei proposed to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that a Ukraine-Latin America summit be held in Argentina to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war.

• On Sunday, December 10, libertarian economist Javier Milei was sworn in as president of Argentina, a country with the worst economic crisis in decades and inflation rapidly approaching 200%.
