US Congress approves record defense budget of USD 886 billion
The majority of members of the two chambers of the US Congress have supported a record USD 886 billion defense policy bill
The Hill reported the information.
310 members of the House of Representatives voted in favor of the US defense budget, while 118 were against. The House passed the law with a two-thirds majority.
As for Ukraine, the bill extends the Security Assistance Initiative for Ukraine, authorizing USD 300 million for fiscal years 2024 and 2025 (i.e., until September 2025).
The day before, the bill was supported by a majority of members of the US Senate, Reuters reports.
The vote in the Senate took place with significant support from both Democrats and Republicans. 68 senators voted in favor, 11 voted against.
The outlet notes that President Joe Biden "strongly supports" the bill and is expected to sign it into law immediately.
