Ukrainian Armed Forces advance by 1,700 meters on Bakhmut's flanks overnight
Ukraine’s defense forces have advanced almost 2 kilometers in the Bakhmut direction on May 17
Serhiy Cherevatyi, the spokesman for the Eastern Grouping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, announced the information on the United News national telethon.
"In the course of the fighting, our units, despite the fact that there is no advantage in personnel, ammunition and equipment, continue to advance on the flanks. We managed to cover the distance of 150 to 1,700 meters over the last day," said Cherevatyi.
He noted that Bakhmut is still the epicenter of the fighting. Over the last day, Russian troops attacked the Bakhmut sector 77 times with artillery and 6 times with aircraft.
"In combat, 130 occupiers were killed, 145 were wounded and four were taken prisoner. Two MSTA self-propelled artillery systems, an Orlan UAV and eight field ammunition depots were also destroyed," the spokesman said.

The Institute for the Study of War noted that Russian troops are losing the initiative in the Bakhmut area, despite the limited nature of the Ukrainian defenders' counterattacks.
