Ukraine's energy system is one of main targets of Russian attacks
Due to massive rocket attacks, Ukraine's energy system is working on the verge, but engineers are doing everything to restore the power system.
This was reported in the Spotlight Ukraine program on Espreso.
Over the past three months, invading Russian forces have been purposely destroying the Ukrainian energy system. Starting from October the 10th, they periodically carry out rocket attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities.
According to official data, due to the Russian terrorist attacks, about 50% of the energy infrastructure of Ukraine was damaged, including all thermal and hydroelectric power plants, and some of them were completely destroyed. The occupying forces destroyed 90% percent of the solar energy infrastructure. Most of the facilities were located in the south of the country, the territories that were or remain under occupation.
The Russians have already fired about a thousand shells, missiles and drones at Ukraine's energy system. 40% of high voltage network facilities have been damaged. In particular, 70% have been shelled several times.
In order to balance the power system, Ukraine needs mobile power plants with a capacity of 20, 30 and 50 megawatts, the Ukrenergo National Power Company emphasizes. Currently, there are both planned and emergency power outages throughout the country. The situation is especially difficult in the central region. In Kyiv, for example, the lights are turned on for up to six hours in a day. But in a week and a half, the city may return to scheduled outages, and the lights will be turned off for up to ten hours a day, power engineers predict. But this is provided that there will be no new terrorist attacks.
