Russia claims Ukraine used ATACMS in Rostov missile attack
Russia claims Ukraine used 10 ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles to target a chemical plant in the Rostov region on December 18. The Center for Countering Disinformation stated that one of Russia's largest chemical enterprises was under attack
According to Russia's Ministry of Defense, Ukraine allegedly launched a missile strike on the Kamyansky plant in the Rostov region, using six ATACMS and four Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
The ministry claimed that all ATACMS missiles and three of the four Storm Shadow missiles were intercepted. "One cruise missile deviated from the attack target. As a result, a technical structure on the plant's premises was damaged. These actions by the Kyiv regime, supported by Western sponsors, will not go unanswered," the ministry added.
Yuriy Slyusar, the acting governor of the Rostov region, initially reported a missile attack on the region, saying, "Air defense forces are repelling the missile attack in the Kamyansk area. Three of four missiles were intercepted, and one struck a technical building. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties. Information is being clarified."
Later, Slyusar claimed that Russian air defenses shot down a total of 10 missiles.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, confirmed that the attack targeted the federal state enterprise Kamyansky plant. This chemical plant is one of the largest in Russia and specializes in producing solid-fuel components for rocket engines, multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS), and intercontinental ballistic missiles. It also manufactures explosives, ammunition components, and decommissions missile systems.
