Trial against Putin will not be long, as he is clearly aware that crimes are taking place - ex-prosecutor of tribunal for Yugoslavia
Russian President Vladimir Putin could have stopped his forces when he saw their first crimes, but he acted deliberately
This was stated in an interview with Espreso by the British lawyer and judge, the prosecutor of the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Geoffrey Nice.
"If there is enough evidence and there is a clear structure of crimes or the destruction of non-military targets - this is a violation of the code of rules of warfare. We see what happened in the first days of the war. Putin knew what was happening. A person who saw such evidence could clearly say: "These are not military actions - these are crimes," he said.
According to the prosecutor, Putin could have stopped his people, but he did not.
"He continued. We can see that he acted deliberately. Putin did what he wanted - he committed crimes against the civilian population. And this is a clear case of when the trial should not be long," Nice concluded.
