Shrapnel passed through the brain hemisphere: Uman resident miraculously survived missile attack
A 25-year-old resident of Uman, who was injured in a rocket attack on April 28, underwent surgery in Kyiv. A one-centimetre fragment was removed from her head, which passed through the entire left hemisphere of the brain.
This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Fragments were found under a surgical x-ray and removed using a special magnet. The doctors had experience in operating on this type of gunshot wounds, which helped them during the operation.
"The centimetre-long fragment went through the entire left hemisphere of the brain and stopped in the back of the girl's head. Doctors say that there was less than half a centimetre left to the venous vessel, which would mean that death was inevitable," the statement reads.
The neurosurgeons who operated on the woman believe that it was a real miracle that she survived, as well as the fact that she was conscious and could speak.
