Ukrainian Navy explains why Russian submarines cannot stay in Sea of Azov
Russian submarines cannot be deployed in the Sea of Azov because of its shallow depth
Ukrainian Navy spokesman, Captain Dmytro Pletenchuk, said this during a telethon.
"Most likely, these submarines (Black Sea Fleet vessels - ed.) are mostly on duty in the eastern part of the Black Sea. As for the Sea of Azov, their presence there is virtually impossible due to its shallow depth. They can only stay there in a surface position and in rather limited corridors," he said.
Pletenchuk noted that enemy submarines cannot be in the northern part of the Black Sea because there is not enough depth for their full use. However, when Russia launches them into the sea, they will most likely be located in the eastern part.
"They don't risk passing through as surface ships, they are mostly based at the Novorossiysk base, and their presence at sea is represented as a submarine. It is usually one unit. When you see two, in most cases, it is a rotation," explained the naval spokesman.
At the same time, he stressed that Russian aircraft are constantly over the Black Sea.
"We constantly record the presence of one missile carrier, which is mostly on combat duty and does not launch missiles. As for the air attacks, these air attacks have been repelled for a long time," Pletenchuk added.
- Earlier, the Navy reported that as of August 13, Russia was using five military airfields in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Two of them have been reduced to a minimum due to damage.
