Russia claims Ukraine crossed border in Kursk region. Russian Volunteer Corps is not involved, Ukraine's intelligence reports
On Tuesday, August 6, authorities in Russia's Kursk region claimed that Ukrainian forces had attempted to breach the border but were reportedly repelled
The claim came from Alexey Smirnov, the acting governor of the Kursk region.
"Today, reports from the Sudzhansky and Korenovsky districts indicate that Ukrainian forces tried to penetrate the Kursk region. The FSB border guards and Russian armed forces prevented the breach," he posted on Telegram.
Smirnov warned that many "information dumps" would surface soon and advised residents to disregard them.
He also urged the public to stay calm and report any suspicious individuals, abandoned items, and drones.
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR) declined to comment on the claims concerning the Kursk region. However, NV, citing a source within the HUR, reports that the events in Kursk do not involve soldiers from the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC), who are fighting on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- Meanwhile, Russia reported the downing of at least 36 drones across three regions on the night and morning of Tuesday, August 6, with a fire breaking out in the Kursk region.
