Ukrainian Armed Forces try to enter Kursk region from direction of Tetkino - Russian media
The Ukrainian Defence Forces are making efforts to capture the border village of Tetkino and nearby settlements in Russia's Kursk region
This was reported by the Russian opposition media outlet Agenstvo on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
These conclusions were drawn by the outlet's journalists following the fighting in the Kursk region on Saturday, August 17.
Tetkino. An attempt to enter the Kursk region from the west
"The Ukrainian army has started moving across the border from the western side of the ‘cut off’ section of the Glushkovsky district. According to the Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState, 16 square kilometres, including the village of Otruba, are already in the grey zone. However, a Telegram channel close to the Russian Ministry of Defence wrote in its Saturday update that there was no confirmation that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had taken Otruba. In addition, according to the blog, the shelling of Tetkino, located three kilometres from Otruba, also near the border, continues," Agenstvo notes.
On DeepState's interactive map, the area opposite the village of Tetkino and the village of Popovo-Lezhachi is indeed classified as a ‘grey zone’. This is where the village of Otruby is located.
Bridges across the Seim. Surrounding the Russian forces in the south-western Kursk region
In addition, as the outlet notes, the Ukrainian Defence Forces are "trying to expand the combat zone to the fourth district of the Kursk region, Glushkovsky."
"By destroying bridges in this area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are cutting off part of the district from the rest of the Russian territory. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are de facto repeating the manoeuvre that helped them regain Kherson in 2022. If the manoeuvre is successful, the combat zone in the Kursk region will expand by 1.5 times," Agenstvo notes.
In the Glushkovsky district of Russia's Kursk region, Ukrainian forces have already destroyed two bridges over the Seim River - in the district centre of Glushkovo and in the village of Zvannoye.
In this area, there is only one intact and serviceable bridge across the Seim River in the village of Karizh.
As the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy the bridges in the Glushkovsky district one by one, the Russian army group in southwestern Kursk may be surrounded.
Fighting continues in key areas of Kursk region: current frontlines and directions
According to the interactive map of the Russian service of Radio Liberty (Prague, Czech Republic), not taking into account the aforementioned attempt of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through Tetkino, Ukrainian troops are currently present and developing an offensive in four administrative districts of the Kursk region, Russia:
1) Sudzhansky (the district centre, the city of Sudzha, is under full control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but Russian units are trying to return to the city from the southeast);
2) Korenevsky (yesterday, 17 August, Ukrainian journalist Andriy Tsaplienko reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly entered the district centre, the village of Korenevo, but this is not yet definitive);
3) Bilove district (the district centre, the village of Belaya, has not yet been taken, the Ukrainian offensive continues);
4) Glushkovsky.
Thus, we are talking about 4 districts out of 28.
The Ukrainian army is also engaged in combat in the villages surrounding Lgov, Kurchatov—home to the Kursk nuclear power plant—and Kursk.
The operation was launched on August 6, 2024.
