Two attack drones approach South Ukrainian nuclear plant on night of October 7
On the night of October 7, Russian 'kamikaze' drones again violated the no-fly zone around the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant
Energoatom, a state enterprise operating all four nuclear power plants in Ukraine, reported this.
‘On the night of October 6-7, two Russian UAVs were spotted near the industrial site of the South Ukrainian NPP. The distance of the Shahed drones from the nuclear facilities was less than 10 km,’ the statement said.
The company stressed that an increase in the number of cases may indicate that Russia is preparing for strikes on Ukrainian nuclear infrastructure.
Energoatom provides information about each such fact, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in turn, sends notes to the International Atomic Energy Agency and informs domestic and international organizations.
‘The aggressor country is taking these steps, fully aware of the possible consequences. This is nuclear terrorism and intimidation of the whole world with a radiation accident,’ said Energoatom CEO Petro Kotin.
- During the night attack by Russia on September 12, a Shahed drone flew in close proximity to Khmelnytsky NPP.
- Also in September, the IAEA reported that drones flew near the South Ukrainian NPP three times in one week.
- On the night and morning of October 7, the Russian forces fired 80 air targets at Ukraine - missiles of various types and attack drones. Air defense destroyed 32 self-detonating drones and two Kinzhal missiles.
