Russia regularly deploys chemical weapons against Ukraine – OPCW representative
Russian forces continue to violate international law, specifically by frequently using ammunition laced with dangerous chemical agents
This was reported by Ukraine’s permanent representative to the OPCW, Oleksandr Karasevych, according to Ukrinform.
"Russia continues to blatantly disregard international law, particularly the Chemical Weapons Convention. They regularly deploy ammunition containing dangerous chemical substances and riot control agents as part of their warfare against Ukraine, violating Article 1 of the Chemical Weapons Convention," Karasevych said.
He urged the global community to firmly denounce these illegal acts and stand united against Russia’s potential election to the OPCW Executive Council for 2025-2027.
According to Karasevych, while Russia wages a war of aggression using chemical weapons, its diplomats have no moral right to hold any positions within the OPCW, let alone in its governing bodies.
- In September alone, Russian forces dropped 250 munitions filled with dangerous chemical agents on Ukrainian defensive positions.
