Macron's invitation of Russia to Normandy is serious political mistake - diplomat
Inviting Russia to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the landings of the Western Allies in Normandy was Macron's personal decision
Diplomat Oleh Shamshur expressed this opinion on the Espreso TV channel.
"I believe that the invitation of Russia to Normandy by French President Emmanuel Macron is a serious political mistake. We thought that after his statements in February, he would abandon France's idea of an equilibrium force, a balance that speaks to everyone. We hoped that Macron had realised that Russia cannot be talked to, but must be dealt with firmly. But we see this French 'swing' again," he said.
Inviting Russia to Normandy is a mistake, Shamshur said.
"I have information that this decision was made, but now France, the state leadership, frankly, regrets that this invitation was sent. It's hard to get out of it. Knowing Macron, I think it was his personal decision, but it is absolutely wrong. Whoever comes from Russia has no business in Normandy. How can you invite an aggressor country, which is condemned by all NATO and EU countries, to such events," he added.
