Defense Express: Ukraine’s strike on Savasleyka airbase marks significant success
Defense Express military expert Oleh Katkov reported that Ukrainian forces destroyed a fuel and lubricant depot at Russia’s Savasleyka airbase and at least one Russian MiG-31 aircraft
He shared this information on Espreso TV on August 14.
"Today’s attack by Ukrainian forces on the Savasleyka airbase is the most thoroughly documented one we’ve seen. We have video footage from the scene, satellite images, and confirmation from NASA’s fire monitoring service. Therefore, we can confirm that the strike was successful. The Defense Forces of Ukraine have achieved significant results. The Savasleyka airbase is known for launching MiG-31K aircraft, which carry Kinzhal missiles. Ukrainian drones successfully hit and destroyed a fuel and lubricant depot at this base. This depot contained specialized aviation fuel for MiG-31K aircraft. The destruction of this fuel, along with the infrastructure for its distribution, is a major blow to the airbase,” Katkov explained.
According to the expert, Ukraine's strike on the Savasleyka airbase was very effective.
“They also showed a video captured by occupying forces themselves, which depicts the moment the airbase was hit. It was likely Ukrainian drones of the Liutyi type. The video shows the drone hitting an area where the tail stabilizer of a MiG-31K aircraft is clearly visible. If the planes had remained at the airbase, particularly the Il-76s, it indicates that Russia was unable to launch them. The video also shows the damage to the MiG-31. Additionally, it’s important to note that the Savasleyka airbase serves as a training center for Russian pilots flying the MiG-31. Thus, the strike on this airbase was maximally effective,” he added.
