Radio Liberty, Ukrinform, and Deutsche Welle reported this, citing security sources. The drones targeted military airfields in Voronezh, Kursk, Savasleyka, and Borisoglebsk.

Sources confirmed that this operation was meticulously planned to stop Russia from using these airfields to launch guided bombs at the front line and Ukrainian cities.

“The SBU continues to systematically weaken the Russian military's aviation capabilities. While Russian aircraft still maintain air superiority, efforts to undermine their effectiveness persist, aiming to "clip the wings of these 'birds,'" according to the source.

Local reports indicate that there were about 10 explosions at the Savasleyka airbase, where MiG aircraft are stationed.

On August 14, Defense Express editor-in-chief Oleh Katkov informed Espreso TV that the Defense Forces of Ukraine had destroyed a fuel and lubricant depot at the Savasleyka airbase, along with at least one MiG-31 aircraft.

Additionally, drones targeting the Borisoglebsk military airfield in Russia's Voronezh region on the night of August 14 struck the northwestern part of the airfield, destroying several hangars.

Russia claims to intercept 117 UAVs and 4 missiles, hits reported near military airfields

The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported the destruction of 117 drones and 4 tactical missiles across eight regions. Explosions were heard near military airfields.

"Last night, in an attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack using unmanned aerial vehicles and 'Tochka-U' tactical missiles against targets in Russian territory, four tactical missiles and 117 aircraft-type UAVs were destroyed by standard air defense systems," stated the Ministry.

According to this report, Russian air defenses allegedly downed UAVs in the following regions:

  • 37 drones and 4 missiles in Kursk region
  • 37 drones in Voronezh region
  • 17 drones in Belgorod region
  • 11 drones in Nizhny Novgorod region
  • 9 drones in Volgograd region
  • 3 drones in Bryansk region
  • 2 drones in Oryol region
  • 1 drone in Rostov region

Russian Telegram channels Astra and Baza reported an attack on the Savasleyka military airfield in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Locals reported hearing at least 10 explosions.

The entrance to the settlement is reportedly blocked.

Gleb Nikitin, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, confirmed that drones attacked the Kulebaki municipal district. He stated that air defense and electronic warfare systems were active in the region.

"All measures are being taken to minimize the consequences. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties at this time," Nikitin added.

Later, the Crimean Wind monitoring group reported fires at the Savasleyka airbase and its vicinity. At 3:30 a.m., a NASA satellite recorded a fire near the runway, specifically in an area housing several buildings.

  • On the morning of August 14, Vyacheslav Gladkov, Governor of the Belgorod region, announced a regional state of emergency.
