Russia tried to destabilize U.S. energy industry two weeks before full-scale invasion of Ukraine - U.S. media
In early February, two weeks before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, there was a massive hacker attack on the US energy industry
This is reported by Fox News, citing its sources in US intelligence.
So, in early February, almost two dozen American companies engaged in the production of liquefied gas, including such giants as Chevron Corporation and Cheniere Energy, were attacked by hackers in early February.
The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency are working to confirm that the attacks originate from Russia.
The hack is believed to be the first step in Russia's efforts to destabilize the US energy industry. During the attack, computers belonging to current and former employees were broken. "Chevron takes the threat of malicious cyber activity seriously", the Chevron spokesman told Fox News.
"We've incorporated United States government guidelines into our cybersecurity tools to help protect Chevron's computing environment", he added.
