"It has become twice as dangerous": Russia modernizes Kh-101 missile with dual warhead
Russia has begun production of an updated version of the Kh-101 cruise missile. It is now equipped with two warheads instead of one, making it twice as dangerous
Defense Express reports.
It is noted that the modernization was first announced in January 2024 during the visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to the MKB Raduga, where these cruise missiles are produced.
The weight of the previous warhead was about 400 kg. However, the new version of the Kh-101 missile has two separate warheads with a total weight of 800 kg.
At the same time, the second warhead has impressive cubic-shaped elements. Such elements are usually used in anti-aircraft missiles, but when used to strike ground targets, they have a significant striking effect against people.
"The installation of an extra warhead in addition to the conventional high-explosive warhead was made possible by reducing the size of the fuel tank. This means a decrease in the range of the Kh-101, but in the case of a decrease from 5500 km to conditional 2250 km (rather less), this does not matter much," the statement said.
The modernization of the missile was also reported by the Polkovnik GSh Telegram channel. It claims that the second warhead of the missile has destructive elements in the form of steel fragments.
