Video showing execution of Ukrainian POW posted online: Ukraine appeals to UN, ICRC
Ukraine's Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets will appeal to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) over the alleged shooting of a Ukrainian prisoner of war
Lubinets announced this on Telegram.
‘Each such execution needs to be properly investigated, and the international community should not remain silent about the systemic crimes of the Russian army. That is why I am reporting and sending letters to the ICRC and the UN on all facts of alleged killings of Ukrainian prisoners of war,’ Lubinets wrote.
He stressed that the shooting of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by the Russian forces is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions, as the country that takes prisoners must guarantee the preservation of the life of prisoners of war and is responsible for their treatment.
Lubinets also noted that Russia deliberately shoots Ukrainian prisoners of war and disseminates such videos in the information space to intimidate Ukrainians.
Earlier today, the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian project ‘I Want to Live’ posted a video of the alleged execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by Russia. The video shows a man in uniform lying on the ground being approached by another soldier, probably a Russian soldier, and shot at.
