Russian soldiers shot three Ukrainian servicemen at close range who had surrendered in the Toretsk sector
This was reported by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
"On September 3, 2024, information was published in a Telegram channel regarding the alleged shooting of Ukrainian servicemen by representatives of the Russian armed forces," the statement said.
The prosecutor's office noted that, according to widespread reports, three soldiers from one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigades emerged from the basement of a house with their hands up when the Russian troops approached closely.
“The occupiers put them face down on the ground, and then almost immediately shot them in the back,” the prosecutor's office said.
A pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) has been launched.
“The intentional killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime,” the prosecutor's office emphasized.
Currently, law enforcement officers are checking the information and establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
