None of us chose this horror. Putin did
Today, each Ukrainian can say to himself that we are doing well. In fact, not only today, but even today. Why?
Because for two and a half years we have been enduring a horror that is hard to believe. For two and a half years now, things that you wouldn't see in your worst dreams have been just our everyday life.
Everyday losses of loved ones at the front, deaths of innocent people and children, daily shelling and destruction of infrastructure, destruction of the economy, destruction of the energy sector, loss of jobs, loss of housing...
We have been enduring this for two and a half years. That's why we can say ‘well done’ to ourselves. As in everyone's life, we have faced challenges and personal problems, and when we overcame them, we told ourselves that we were good. We did not break, we did not give up, we did not bend... Similarly to the war, none of us chose this horror. It was chosen by Putin.
I don't know when it will all end. I have analytical thoughts on this and share them with you. But the situation is constantly changing, new variables modify the equation, and I try to present a new view of it.
But today, I think we have to tell ourselves that we did well. Because if we were to look at the people who are passing with dignity one of the most difficult tests in the history of the 21st century, we would definitely say that they are doing well.
These words do not make it easier. The situation ahead does not promise anything good either. But we have to tell ourselves that we are doing well. Because we are spending huge efforts to deter the enemy, to donate, to survive in the terrible economic and energy conditions. And they are yielding results. Not yet the result we want, but they are working.
And to say to ourselves, ‘We did well,’ is to appreciate all these efforts. And they are worth it.
