Civilians are weakest link in war of attrition

The realities of the post-war period will generate a narrative of "defeat" in Ukraine, even if it's not accurate. Politicians will compete to shift the blame onto each other

The prevailing sentiment will be a collective desire among Ukrainians to distance themselves from this blame. It will be the West, Zelenskyy, the Rada, the elites, Putin, Trump - anyone but the people of Ukraine.

In a war of attrition, the civilian population becomes the most vulnerable link, and right now, it is the easiest target for Russia's war machine.

Clausewitz made an obvious observation: "The activity in war is never directed solely against matter, it is always at the same time directed against the intelligent force which gives life to this matter, and to separate the two from each other is impossible."

Ukraine's moral strength lies in the mobilization efforts, respect for the Armed Forces, volunteer participation, donations, military taxes, and its defense industry. If these elements are undermined, the enemy will be able to win quickly.

The issue is that due to a failure to recognize the historic moment Ukraine is facing, corrupt practices by officials, unpunished abuses within the recruitment centers, political maneuvering by the authorities, and a disastrous disregard for the importance of Ukraine's own defense industry, the country's "moral forces" are being eroded by its actions.

At this point, is it possible to halt the descent into defeat, driven by the illusion of a self-deceptive victory? Those who truly understand the nature of war already know the answer to this question.
