Russia convenes UN Security Council meeting on deportation of Ukrainian children - AP
The Russian Federation plans to hold an informal meeting of the UN Security Council in early April to discuss the deportation of Ukrainian children, due to which a court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin
The Guardian reports this with reference to AP.
According to the agency, during the meeting, the Russian Federation, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council in April, intends to describe the "real situation" with Ukrainian children taken to Russia.
This issue arose after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes related to the abduction of children.
At the same time, Russian representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said on March 20 that Moscow had allegedly been planning the meeting long before the ICC's decision. He also called the issue of the children "totally overblown" and said that Moscow wants to explain at the Security Council meeting, tentatively on April 6, that they were taken to Russia "simply because we wanted to spare them of the danger that military activities may bring."
