First underground school built in Sumy region: costs revealed
The first underground school has been built in the Sumy region, bordering Russia
The first underground school has been built in the Sumy region. Journalist Lyubov Sitak from Kordon.Media reported this on Espreso.
"The first underground school appeared in one of the communities of Okhtyrka district. Its construction cost approximately $850,000: $795,000 from the state budget and $55,000 from the community budget," she noted.
In addition to this school in Okhtyrka district, another one is being built in the region, specifically in Sumy, and possibly in the Shostka district. Thus, at least three underground schools are planned in the Sumy region, Sitak stated.
"Such schools are needed in every district and community. However, the Sumy region currently lacks such financial resources. The number of children is significantly smaller now. In some border settlements, there are no children at all due to the forced evacuation of children in some communities. Therefore, the possibility and feasibility of building such schools are greater in larger cities like Sumy, Shostka, or Okhtyrka," the journalist added.
- On January 10, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized the importance of creating underground schools in frontline regions, noting that the government is allocating funds for their construction.
