Moscow reacts to Germany's readiness to arrest Putin on its territory
Germany is obliged to detain Vladimir Putin if he sets foot in the country, in line with the International Criminal Court's decision to issue an arrest warrant for the Russian leader
German Justice Minister Mark Buschmann said this, Die Zeit reports.
“I expect the International Criminal Court will quickly contact Interpol as well as the member states and ask them to comply with the request. Germany will then be obliged to arrest President Putin when he enters German territory and hand him over to the ICC,” Buschmann said.
He emphasized that Germany would comply with the ICC's request if “Putin's foot steps on German territory” because the country is subject to the court's jurisdiction.
Later, the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed lawyers to give a legal assessment of the statements of the German Minister of Justice regarding the arrest of Russian citizens, including Vladimir Putin, in Germany.
