Latvian volunteer fighter Edgars Platonov killed in war against Russia
Latvian soldier Edgars Platonov, who fought against Russian occupation army as part of the International Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has died in battles for Ukraine
The press service of the Latvian Armed Forces reports.
As noted, Edgars Platonov died on December 25, 2024, near Novoyehorivka, Luhansk region. He was 41 years old.
The soldier served in the Foreign Legion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“We express our deepest condolences to the family of the volunteer soldier Edgars Platonov, who died in Ukraine. The serviceman died selflessly fighting against the Russian occupation army,” the Latvian Armed Forces said.
President of Latvia Edgards Rinkēvičs expressed his condolences over Platonov's death.
“Another one of our volunteer soldiers died defending the freedom and independence of Ukraine. Our deepest condolences to the family and comrades-in-arms of Edgars Platonov! Eternal memory to the hero,” he wrote on X.
- As of the end of August 2024, at least 20 volunteer soldiers from the Baltic States and Scandinavia have been killed since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
