Russia attacks Danube port infrastructure, Kharkiv, Cherkasy regions with drones at night

On the night of October 12, Russian terrorists launched an attack UAVs to strike the port area of the Odesa region. There were also hits in Kharkiv and Cherkasy region

The Air Force warned about the launch of the Shahed drones from Crimea at 9:17 pm.

"The enemy has launched several groups of attack UAVs from the area of the Chauda training ground (Crimea) in the direction of the southern regions. Air raid alerts may be spread in the direction of the attack UAVs' movement. Do not ignore the air raid!" the Air Force wrote.

Around 10:00 p.m., the Ukrainian Armed Forces also announced the threat of Shahed UAVs from the northeast. At 11:44 p.m., it was reported that a group of attack UAVs from the Kherson region was moving in the direction of the Mykolaiv region.

At 12:17 a.m., the Shahed drones were spotted in the airspace of the Dnipropetrovsk region, moving westward. A few minutes later, the danger was announced in Kirovohrad region. Later, in Cherkasy and Vinnytsia regions.

At the same time, another group of Russian UAVs flew from the Black Sea towards the south of Odesa region, in particular Izmail district.

There was a threat of the use of ballistic weapons in Donetsk, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions, which was canceled at around 1:00 a.m. At about 2:30 a.m., the all-clear signal was declared in all regions.

Attack on Odesa region 

According to the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, damage to port infrastructure and residential buildings was reported in Izmail district. Fires broke out at the scene and have been extinguished as of this morning.

As a result of the attack, a woman suffered thermal burns. She is currently in hospital and receiving all necessary medical care. 

Hit in Kharkiv

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that Russian terrorists shelled the city.

"The enemy is attacking Kharkiv again. Preliminary, there was a hit on one of the districts on the outskirts of the city. Information on possible casualties and damage is currently being collected," Terekhov wrote.

The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, said that according to preliminary information, one person was injured.  A private house was damaged. All emergency services are working at the scene. 

Later it was reported that around 11:30 p.m. Russia struck, using a Shahed UAV, at the Industrialnyi district of Kharkiv.

A 57-year-old man was wounded as a result of the strike. A woman also sought medical assistance due to an acute stress reaction. Two private residential buildings were damaged.

Consequences in Cherkasy region

"Our defenders have successfully destroyed an enemy attack drone in the sky over the region. Another Shahed drone hit an open area," wrote Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration.

It is noted that the fire due to dry vegetation has been eliminated.

Ukrainian air defense destroyed 28 drones

The Air Force states that on the night of October 12, a total of 33 Shahed drones were recorded over the Ukrainian territory. In return, air defense forces destroyed 28 of them.

"On the night of October 12, 2023, Russia attacked Ukraine with Shahed-type attack UAVs from the northern and southern directions - Belgorod region (Russia) and from Cape Chauda (Crimea)," the statement reads.

It is known that the Russian UAVs flew in different directions, so air defense was operating in at least six regions of Ukraine. Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare units were involved in repelling the air attack.

  • On the night of October 10, several groups of Shahed drones took off from the Black Sea in the southern and eastern directions, and Russian aircraft were also active.
