Research: 71% of Russians believe that there is no need to pay reparations to Ukraine
Oleksandr Shulga, Doctor of Sociology, head of IKAR, noted that there aren’t many differences between generations in the attitude of Russians to reparations, with most young people and older generations having the same position
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
The head of IKAR (Institute of Conflictology and Analysis of Russia) commented on the results of a nationwide sociological survey conducted by the institute to study the attitude of Russian society towards reparations to Ukraine and the tribunal against Russia.
"We asked Russians how the Russian government and Russia in general should treat the international tribunal, whether to recognize it or not. And 55% believe that Russia shouldn’t recognize it. We also investigated the attitude of Russians to reparations, if any, for the restoration of Ukraine, and what their state should do. And 71% of the Russians surveyed believe that Russia should not pay any reparations, as this would show its weakness. It is important to note that there is not much difference in opinion between the older, middle-aged and younger generations. Just as the majority of young people believe that no reparations should be paid, the older generation shares the same opinion," said the doctor of sociology.
Oleksandr Shulga summarized that so far these results do not give optimism as to whether Russians will be ready to pay reparations in the future, in post-Putin Russia.
