PACE deputies re-elect Tiny Kox as president of Assembly: MP from Servant of the People party received only 44 votes out of 223

The current head of the department, Tiny Kox, a Dutch politician and representative of a group of left-wing parties, was re-elected president of PACE. He received 175 votes in the first round, while only 44 out of 223 deputies supported Merezhko.

After his victory, Kox thanked the deputies for their trust.

"Thank you very much to the members of PACE who re-elected me today for a new term of one year. I am very honored by your trust. I look forward to your support in the coming year, which will be full of challenges," he wrote in his microblog.

During his speech, Kox also promised that Ukraine would remain a top priority for PACE and also announced a minute of silence for all Ukrainians who died at the hands of the Russian occupiers.

On October 13, 2022, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution recognizing the Russian regime as a terrorist one.
