Kakhovka HPP cannot be restored - Ukrhydroenergo chief
According to Ihor Syrota, Director General of Ukrhydroenergo, the plant was displaced from its axis after the explosion, so it will eventually need to be dismantled
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
The Director General of Ukrhydroenergo commented on the state of the Kakhovka HPP after it was blown up by Russian troops on June 6.
"Kakhovka HPP is no longer subject to restoration. This is obvious, because the plant was blown up from the inside, from the lower levels, from the dam. The entire engine room and all units were blown up. The hydroelectric power plant is off-axis, so we will need to dismantle it eventually," said Ihor Syrota.
Syrota noted that following the terrorist attack on the Kakhovka HPP, the design institute, in collaboration with Ukrhydroenergo, has developed a comprehensive plan outlining the actions to be taken after the territory is de-occupied.
"We realize that currently we cannot do anything there. However, as soon as it is de-occupied, we will be ready to build a bridge on the upper reservoir, i.e. from the right bank to this dam. We are conducting preliminary assessments to determine the scale of the project and developing a detailed plan outlining the required materials and equipment to estimate the timeline. Based on our initial calculations, it will take about three months to build the bridge and stop the leakage of water and the draining of the Kakhovka reservoir," explained Ukrhydroenergo Director General.
