Johnson explains what Putin expects from 'soft' European politicians
The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, says that Russia's dictator Vladimir Putin expects that Europe will refuse to support Ukraine because of the rise in energy prices
Johnson wrote about this in a column for The Mail.
"Putin's barbaric invasion has 'freaked out' the energy markets. That's why your electricity bill is doubling. I'm afraid Putin knows it and likes it. He wants us to make concessions. He believes that 'soft' European politicians will not have enough fighting spirit - that come winter we will lift sanctions and beg for Russian oil and gas", Johnson wrote.
In his opinion, Putin expects that the Europeans will refuse to support Ukraine, but this will not happen.
"He believes that we will get tired of supporting Ukraine and start pushing it to a deal, however disgusting, with the tyrant in the Kremlin. But that would be complete madness. In this brutal struggle, the Ukrainian people must win - and will win. So will Britain", Johnson is convinced.
He added that every month Putin's position is weakening, and his ability to bully and blackmail is decreasing.
"The coming months will be tough. Our energy bills will be staggering. The cost of heating our homes is frightening for many of us. But I am confident that we will get through this - and Britain will emerge stronger and more prosperous. It is worth remembering who is behind this global price rise on energy resources and what is at stake now", Johnson concluded.
