German Justice Minister Buschmann opposes creation of UN tribunal for Russia
German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said that creation of a special tribunal for the Russian Federation at the UN could undermine recognition of the International Criminal Court (The Hague)
Bushman said this in the interview with Augsburger Allgemeine.
"There are many countries in Africa that say: if something happens here, the International Criminal Court will do; but as soon as it happens in Europe, you want a special tribunal," he said.
According to the German Minister of Justice, creation of a special tribunal under the UN may undermine the authority of the International Criminal Court (The Hague), which he considers a "historic achievement".
According to him, the position of the federal government regarding the establishment of a tribunal has not yet been determined.
"It is important that we conduct these discussions in close coordination with our partners and involve agencies that are already investigating," he added.
Marco Buschmann became Minister of Justice in December 2021, when the leader of the Social Democratic Party, Olaf Scholz, was elected Chancellor of Germany.
