FBI partners with US firms to collect evidence of Russian war crimes in Ukraine
The FBI, US companies, and Ukraine are working together to collect evidence of Russian war crimes, such as geolocation and cell phone data
Reuters reported that Alex Kobzanets, an FBI special agent who previously served as the agency's legal attaché in Ukraine, said that Ukrainian authorities have been collecting digital information from battlefields and war-torn cities since the start of the full-scale invasion.
“Collection of that data, analysis of that data, working through that data is something the FBI has experience working through,” Kobzanets said at the RSA cybersecurity conference in San Francisco.
According to him, this work includes studying information from cell phones, forensic analysis of DNA samples, and analysis of body parts collected on battlefields.
“The next step is working with national US service providers, and transferring that information...obtaining subscriber information, obtaining geolocation information, where possible,” Kobzanets added.
