Fatalities in Russian attack on humanitarian convoy in Zaporizhzhia increases to 30, with 88 injured

On September 30, at 7:00 a.m., Russia fired 16 missiles at a humanitarian convoy on its way out of Zaporizhzhia, killing 30 people and injuring 88 more

This was announced by the head of Ukraine's National Police, Ihor Klymenko.

"Among the dead are two children: an 11-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. A 3-year-old girl was also injured. Unfortunately, we also have losses among policemen. A 36-year-old employee of the local Strategic Investigations Department was killed. Another 27 policemen of Berdyansk district administration received injuries, and 4 of them are in serious condition. They were on duty, ensuring law and order," Klymenko wrote.

Earlier, the senior inspector of the communication department of Ukraine's National Police in the Zaporizhzhia region, Kateryna Tretynko, told about the whereabouts of the victims, Suspilne reports. 

All 74 victims are in medical facilities in Zaporizhzhia. 31 wounded were admitted to the regional clinical hospital, according to the head doctor Ihor Shyshka.

"Only 10 out of 31 will have so-called minor surgeries. These are primarily surgical treatment of superficial soft tissue wounds, two of these patients will not require surgery at all. All other patients will need or may need multiple major surgeries," -  he emphasized.

In addition, five victims are in intensive care in a serious condition. They are currently being stabilized and will be operated on later.

At the time of Igor Shishka's communication with journalists, 15 operating teams were working and 15 operating tables were involved.

Earlier, Ivan Fedorov,  the mayor of Melitopol, reported in Telegram about 62 wounded.

"This morning, the enemy launched 16 missiles at Zaporizhzhia. Three of them hit a convoy of cars of civilians who were standing in line to leave the city. As of 12:00, 25 people were killed, 62 were wounded, including women and children Melitopol residents. A 5-year-old child was hit by shrapnel in the stomach, doctors are fighting for her life. The 3-year-old child miraculously survived, but remained an orphan," he emphasized.

According to Ivan Fedorov, among the victims are volunteers who transport medicine to temporarily occupied territories, evacuate people, as well as those who have relatives in the Russian-occupied part of the region.

"The enemy immediately reported that he had hit a "strategic object" with a high-precision weapon. So the destruction of civilians is Russia's strategy? Moreover, the occupiers announced that today in Melitopol there will be a "holiday" on the occasion of the "referendum". That's literally dancing on blood." the mayor remarked.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office reported in Telegram about 50 wounded and the initiation of criminal proceedings.

"Currently, we know about 25 dead and 50 wounded, among the victims are children," the department emphasized.

The prosecutor's office started criminal proceedings on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Investigations are ongoing, information is being clarified.

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy Head of the Office of the President, reported in Telegram that Russian hit the humanitarian convoy with 16 missiles.

According to him, Russians fired 16 missiles using the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system.

"Russian occupying forces launched four missiles in the area of ​​the car market, as well as at the point of concentration of motor vehicles and citizens for departure/entry to/from the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. There was a column of cars with civilians who were going to pick up their relatives in the temporarily occupied territory" - Kyrylo Tymoshenko noted.

Earlier, Oleksandr Starukh, the head of Zaporizhzhya Regional Military Administration, wrote about 23 killed and 28 injured in Telegram.

"Currently, we know about 23 dead and 28 wounded. All civilians are our compatriots," he emphasized.

Before that, Anatolyi Kurtev, the secretary of the Zaporizhzhya City Council, informed about the dead and wounded in Telegram.

"At 7:00 a.m., Russians brutally attacked Zaporizhzhia. After some time, there was a second attack. There are dead and wounded. Ordinary civilians who were standing in a column to leave for the occupied territory," he noted.

Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Melitopol, added that people leave Zaporizhzhia for the occupied territories every day to deliver vital medicines to civilians, support relatives and return back.

"For now, it is impossible to even count the number of dead and wounded people. Among the victims are Melitopol citizens," Ivan Fedorov noted.

Earlier, Oleksandr Starukh told about the missile strike in Telegram.

"Russians launched a missile attack on the outskirts of the regional center. According to preliminary information, there are casualties. Relevant services are working at the crime scene," he emphasized.
