Epifaniy visits Constantinople and meets with Patriarch Bartholomew
Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Epifaniy has visited Constantinople and met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who has condemned Russian aggression in Ukraine as diabolical
Metropolitan Epifaniy shared the information on Facebook.
The head of the OCU noted that Bartholomew admires the courage of the Ukrainian people and prays for them and their victory.
"We condemn this war, Russian aggression against Ukraine. This is a diabolical war, which was spawned by lies. I said this in my speech recently at a forum in Abu Dhabi, and most of those present greeted this definition with applause," the Primate of the OCU quoted Bartholomew.
Epifaniy also shared with the Ecumenical Patriarch the news that he had a great spiritual joy to serve the liturgy twice in the cathedral church of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. "May God bless the entire Lavra to be Ukrainian!" said Bartholomew.
Epifaniy also led a unique service at the Patriarchal Church of St. George at Phanar.
"As the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, I was blessed to lead the khorostasia at the Patriarchal Church of St. George at Phanar, which is usually led by the Patriarch. A khorostasia is a service performed by a priest and deacon in the presence and with the blessing of the bishop who is on the throne, presiding over it. This tradition exists in the Ecumenical Patriarchate for a number of solemn services," explained the Metropolitan.
The current service was dedicated to honoring the transfer of the relics of St. John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople.
