Defense Minister doesn't help Ukraine with arms supply – investigative journalist  on Reznikov's possible dismissal

Journalist Yuriy Nikolov believes that Ukraine's Defense Minister is part of the problem of corruption in the ministry, and he should be dismissed

The co-founder of the Nashi Groshi (Our Money) independent group said this on Espreso TV.

"While we were investigating the activities of the Minister of Defense, he proved that he is not the one who solves the problems of corruption or inefficiency in the Defense Ministry. He is part of this problem. He did not really help Ukraine in the area of weapons procurement. There is no doubt that his long-awaited resignation will help. It can't get any worse," Nikolov emphasized.

According to him, the political authorities still do not dare to implement the law on the inevitability of punishment.

"Such a law should ensure reforms and send signals to the successors that this is not the way to act. What will Reznikov's successor see now? That it is possible to do your job not in the best way, but to get an honorable dismissal. This is the protection of the corruption scaffolding that has been implemented in Ukraine for decades under the influence of Russian narratives," Nikolov emphasized.

The scandal with Reznikov

On August 10, it became known that Ukraine's Defense Ministry had allegedly signed a contract with a Turkish company in the fall of 2022 to supply winter clothing for the military. In fact, "camouflage jackets" were sent to Ukraine, which were re-registered as "winter air protection jackets" on the way, which are almost three times more expensive.

On August 25, it was reported that one of the owners of the Turkish company that received USD 30 million for the scandalous purchase of lightweight jackets for the Ukrainian military under the guise of winter jackets was the nephew of a member of the Servant of the People faction.

Amid accusations of purchasing and supplying summer jackets instead of winter ones, Reznikov offered a bet to a deputy and a journalist. They responded.

On August 26, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that the Defense Ministry had purchased 180,000 winter jackets, which were handed over to the Armed Forces, last year.

According to a Ukrainian MP, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov will resign from his post and become ambassador to the UK. His place may be taken by the head of the State Property Fund, Rustem Umerov.
