Reznikov may resign as Ukraine’s Defense Minister next week. Who will be his successor?
According to a Ukrainian MP, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov will resign from his post and become ambassador to the UK. His place may be taken by the head of the State Property Fund Rustem Umierov
Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported the information.
"So, according to my information, Reznikov will leave the post of Defense Minister and will subsequently go to the UK as an ambassador. If there are no more high-profile scandals before then. Rumors that there is something wrong with the agrément have not been confirmed," the MP wrote.
Rustem Umierov, the head of the State Property Fund, is likely to be nominated for the minister's position, "He just recently completed a year in office. And please note, a year without a single scandal and with a record result."
The new head of the State Property Fund has not yet been elected.
As to whether this information is accurate, Zheleznyak said, "Current personnel policy can be astonishing, but yesterday morning embassies were already warned about this rotation. At least some of them."
Changes may take place as early as next week.
Ukrainska Pravda, citing its own sources in the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada, also confirms this information.
The Reznikov scandal
On August 10, media reported that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine had allegedly signed a contract with a Turkish company in the fall of 2022 to supply winter clothing for the military. In fact, "camouflage jackets" were sent to Ukraine, which were re-registered as "winter jackets" on the way, which were almost three times more expensive.
On August 25, media reported that one of the owners of the Turkish company that received USD 30 million for the scandalous purchase of lightweight jackets for the Ukrainian military under the guise of winter jackets was the nephew of a member of the Servant of the People faction.
Amid accusations of purchasing and supplying summer jackets instead of winter ones, Reznikov offered a bet to the MP and a journalist. They responded.
On August 26, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that the Defense Ministry had purchased 180,000 winter jackets, which were supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, last year.
