Secretary Rubio: U.S. aims to foster peace in Ukraine, Middle East

This is stated on the official website of the U. S. Department of State. Rubio said the focus will be on Ukraine during the upcoming Munich Security Conference. 

“The top of mind for everyone is going to be war in Ukraine, and the President has been very clear. President Trump has been clear that the war in Ukraine needs to end,” he stated. 

“He’s going to sort of begin to lay out a broad path forward… It’d be in the interest of everybody for that war to end, and so obviously we’ll be discussing that with foreign ministers and other leaders there.”

In the Middle East, the U.S. sees a chance for major geopolitical shifts — “potentially exciting opportunities to really change the dynamic in that region,” meaning a region where there is a stable Lebanese government, a Syria no longer under Assad, and Israel feeling secure enough to enter a peace deal with Saudi Arabia.

“Suddenly you have a very different region where all kinds of things that were not possible before are now possible,” he said. 

He emphasized that President Trump is committed to promoting global peace.

“If there’s a chance to create conditions for peace, that’s certainly something we’re going to do our best to try to foster and be a part of.”
