China calls on Europe to support its peace plan regarding Ukraine
China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, has called on Europe to play a role in supporting peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. Earlier, the US warned that the implementation of China's "peace plan" would effectively freeze Moscow's territorial gains
Bloomberg reported the information.
"A cease-fire, stopping the war, resuming peace talks and a political settlement of the crisis should become the strategic consensus between China and Europe," Wang Yi said in a phone conversation with Emmanuel Bonnet, an adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Chinese diplomat expressed hope that France and Europe as a whole would "play their due role" in the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
The urge came shortly after Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Russia, during which Russian leader Vladimir Putin promised to establish even closer ties between the two countries and welcomed Beijing's proposals to end hostilities.
The US, meanwhile, warned that the implementation of the Chinese "peace plan" would effectively freeze Moscow's territorial gains in Ukraine.
