Ukraine's Armed Forces receive €538M in weapons via "Danish model" in 2024
As a result of agreements concluded in 2024 under the "Danish model," Ukraine's Armed Forces received weapons worth nearly €538 million
Ukraine's Ministry of Defense reported the information.
The funding sources included the governments of Denmark – €125 million through the Danish national Ukraine Fund, Sweden – €20 million, Iceland – €2.7 million, and €390 million from interest on frozen Russian assets.
"We are grateful to Denmark for its leadership, unwavering support, and effective implementation of the 'Danish model' of cooperation with Ukraine’s defense industry. The purchased equipment is already proving its effectiveness on the battlefield, strengthening our ability to resist the enemy and bringing us closer to victory," said Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
The ministry recalled that last year, Ukraine launched a new mechanism with Denmark to finance the procurement of weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, known as the "Danish model." This model involves funding Ukrainian defense enterprises by the Danish government.
Ukraine compiles a list of projects requiring funding, while Danish specialists verify the recommended companies, assess their capabilities, and evaluate their experience in fulfilling contracts.
"I am very proud of the cooperation between Denmark and Ukraine under the 'Danish model.' I am also impressed by the pace that Ukraine’s defense industry can achieve. Critical support is already on the front lines or on its way, and I hope more countries will consider supporting Ukraine through its defense industry," said Denmark’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
The Ministry of Defense added that Denmark will continue supporting Ukraine. Currently, €135 million has already been reserved for further purchases from Ukraine's defense industry in 2025. In addition, Norway is expected to allocate approximately €43 million.
- At the end of December, Ukraine received over €150 million to finance its defense-industrial complex from Denmark, France, and Lithuania.
