British intelligence explains how Russia tries to hide its crimes against Ukrainian children
The Russian authorities are trying to divert the world's attention from the deportation of children by creating a commission to investigate "crimes of the Ukrainian authorities" against minors since 2014
The UK Ministry of Defense published the report on Twitter.
On June 20, the Russian State Duma voted to establish a parliamentary commission to investigate "crimes committed by the Ukrainian government against juveniles in the Donbas since 2014."
According to intelligence, this is a step in response to the international community's condemnation of Russia's deportation of children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
"The move is highly likely both a form of ‘lawfare’ and contributes to Russian information operations, weaponising legislation by attempting to muddy the narrative around its own egregious actions," the British intelligence noted.
The Kremlin clearly considers the message of children's rights as an important communication topic, particularly because the issuance of the ICC arrest warrant for Putin was based on the suspicion of illegal deportation of children.

In May, Ukraine’s Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated that there was evidence of Belarus' involvement in the illegal deportation of children to Russia.
