Boris Johnson receives honorary title from Ivan Franko Lviv National University, hopes to visit Lviv

On October 4, the Academic Council at Ivan Franko Lviv National University awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the former UK Prime Minister (2019-2022), Boris Johnson

This was reported by the press service of the university, Espreso.West reports.

It was noted there that the British politician gave official consent to become part of the academic community of Lviv University and expressed hope to visit Ivan Franko Lviv National University in the near future.

"According to the procedure, Boris Johnson's candidacy was nominated by the rectorate of Lviv University and supported by five professors of the University. In particular, Rector and Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr Melnyk, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and International Cooperation Serhii Riznyk, Head of the Department of European Law and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Relations Mykhailo Mykievich, Head of the Department of Algebra, Topology and Basics of Mathematics Taras Banakh, and Professor of the Department of Geography of Ukraine Myroslav Dnistryanskyi expressed their support for the awarding of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Lviv University to Boris Johnson," the message reads.

It was also noted there that in his speech, Volodymyr Melnyk emphasized the important role of Boris Johnson in consolidating the world community to counter Russian aggression and help Ukraine.

"Boris Johnson is not one of the first, but actually the first of the world leaders to take a hard and unequivocal position regarding the fact that Ukraine is an independent state and Russia is an aggressor. Boris Johnson's position and his visit to Ukraine eventually led to the fact that the process of such a large-scale consolidation regarding the fact that Europe should oppose the Russian aggressor as the one who destroys all the norms of civilization of Ukraine and the world," Volodymyr Petrovych stated, adding that it was on Boris Johnson's initiative that extremely large military aid was and is still being provided to Ukraine.

Serhii Riznyk, outlining the importance of the figure of the British politician for history, noted that Boris Johnson is a figure of global scale, who has powerful authority and remains a great friend of the Ukrainian people.

The speeches of the colleagues were summarized by the head of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Forensics, Professor Vasyl Nor, who heads the commission of the Academic Council on awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Ivan Franko Lviv National University. 

"Boris Johnson showed the qualities characteristic of a democratic person who knows how to distinguish good from evil. He demonstrated his devotion to good by expressing his support for Ukraine," Vasyl Nor summarized, urging on behalf of the commission to support Boris Johnson's candidacy.

Members of the Academic Council unanimously supported the awarding of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Ivan Franko Lviv National University to Boris Johnson.

"It should be noted that the procedure for the nomination of Boris Johnson was preceded by a long communication between Lviv University, the Embassy of Ukraine in Great Britain, and British colleagues, connected with the implementation of one of the main strategic tasks of Lviv University during the war - the unification of the world community around the idea of ​​combating Russian aggression," the press service of the university wrote. 

Boris Johnson expressed his gratitude for the offer to become Doctor Honoris Causa of Lviv University.

"I am proud that as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom I was able to play my modest role in helping Ukraine in the war against the Russian aggressor, and I will continue to do everything in my power to continue to support Ukraine, even when I have already left the office. It is a great honor for me to receive the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from your University and I have great hope that I will be able to visit the University in the future," Boris Johnson emphasized in response to the title.
