
Explosion reported after Molotov cocktails thrown at Russian Consulate General in Marseille
On the morning of Monday, February 24, an explosion struck near the Russian Consulate General in Marseille, France. Preliminary reports suggest that the building was attacked with Molotov cocktails
BFM reported the information, citing rescuers.
The explosion took place around 08:00 a.m. near the Russian Consulate General, located on Avenue Ambroise-Paré in the 8th arrondissement of Marseille, an area that hosts several other consulates, including those of Egypt, Tunisia, and Armenia.
Approximately thirty firefighters and police officers are currently working at the scene.
It was later confirmed that Molotov cocktails were thrown at the Russian consulate. Two bottles landed in the consulate's garden. Preliminary reports indicate that there were no casualties
Russian Consul General in Marseille, Stanislav Oransky, told La Marseillaise that the explosion took place inside the consulate building. The Marseille Naval Fire Battalion has entered the premises to assess the situation.
Meanwhile, Russia has already responded to the incident. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the explosions at the Russian Consulate General in Marseille "bear all the signs of a terrorist attack."
