Xi reaffirms 'no limits' partnership with Putin on Ukraine war anniversary

The Kremlin said that Putin had informed Xi Jinping about recent Russian contacts with the United States, and the Chinese president “expressed support for the ongoing dialogue between Russia and the United States.”

Beijing also declared its readiness to “help find ways to peacefully resolve the Ukrainian conflict.”

The conversation came amid growing concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump's push for a rapid resolution to the Ukraine conflict, raising speculation that Washington could attempt to drive a wedge between Xi and Putin and refocus attention on competing with China.

However, the leaders’ discussion seemed intended to counter such scenarios. Both presidents emphasized the strength and "long-term" nature of their alliance, noting that their partnership, with its own "internal dynamics," would remain unaffected by external influences.

"China-Russia relations have strong internal driving force and unique strategic value, and are not aimed at, nor are they influenced by, any third party," Xi stated, according to the official Chinese readout. "The development strategies and foreign policies of China and Russia are long-term," he added.

This was the second phone call between Xi and Putin this year. The two previously discussed strengthening their ties with Trump in January.
