Biden called Putin a war criminal. Video
This is the first such statement from an American leader since the Russian invasion of Ukraine
This is reported by AP, Espresso.TV informs.
"He (Putin - Ed.) is a war criminal", Biden said.
So far, the White House has shied away from such language, characterizing the actions of Russia and its leader, stating that "war crime" is a legal term that needs to be investigated.
But today, when asked by a journalist whether he considers Putin a war criminal, Biden answered unequivocally "yes".
In his speech today, the US President noted that Russian troops in Ukraine are bombing hospitals and holding doctors hostage. He promised to give Ukraine more help to fight Russia.
Biden also said that he listened to Zelensky's speech at the White House. He said: "We are united in our disgust at Putin's brutal offensive and we will continue to support them (Ukraine - Ed.) as they fight for their freedom, their democracy, their survival".
