Assault on "Azovstal" will lead to significant losses of Russian troops - Ministry of Defense of Great Britain
British intelligence believes that Putin's decision to block the Azovstal steel plant likely indicates a desire to contain Ukrainian resistance in Mariupol. Thus, he wants to free up Russian forces for deployment elsewhere in eastern Ukraine
This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense on Twitter.
The ministry notes that a full-scale Russian ground attack on the plant is likely to result in significant losses for the Russians, further reducing their overall combat effectiveness.
"Heavy shelling and fighting continues in the east of Donbas as Russia seeks to push further into settlements including Krasny Lyman, Barvinkove, Lyman and Popasna as part of its plans in the region", the UK MoD said.
