Germany donates Iris-T SLM, Iris-T SLS air defense systems to Ukraine
Last week, Ukraine received from Germany a medium-range IRIS-T SLM air defense missile system and a short-range IRIS-T SLS
Major General Christian Freuding, head of the Special Headquarters for Assistance to Ukraine at the German Defense Ministry, said this in an interview with RND.
"Just last week we delivered two Iris-T SLM and SLS air defense systems. We will deliver two more air defense systems by the end of this year," he said.
Ukraine needs these air defense systems to protect its critical infrastructure and citizens from attacks by the invading Russian forces.
Freuding emphasized that Berlin is currently delivering military equipment and ammunition to the Ukrainian military at a high level and will continue to support it.
The German major general added that the Ukrainian military receives light armored vehicles and main battle tanks, as well as a large amount of artillery ammunition from Germany. According to him, this assistance is quite significant.
"The federal government remains united in its support for Ukraine," the official summarized.
- On September 4, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Berlin had ordered 17 IRIS-T air defense systems for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
