The US Department of State has advised China not to support Russia's aggression against Ukraine if Beijing hopes to restore productive relations with Europe

This was stated by Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State Vedant Patel, Ukrinform reports.

He stated that if China asserts having positive relations with Europe and other nations, it must cease contributing to the primary threat to European security, which he identified as Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Patel emphasized that this is not only the position of the United States, but also of the G7 countries, NATO allies and the EU.

The State Department official remarked that if China were to halt its support for Russia, it would become difficult for Russia to sustain its war against Ukraine. He emphasized that no country should provide Putin with a platform to conduct his war against Ukraine.

According to him, the United States and other Western countries cannot return to “business as usual” with Russia or turn a blind eye to its clear violations of international law.

  • The Kremlin press service said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin will visit China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping on May 16-17.
